THE CENTER is both the origin point of the university and a physical building on campus — the administrative hub, the place where everything begins. It houses two colleges at once: College 0 (Freshman Studies, dean NULL the Penguin) and College 0² (Foundation Math, dean Sally Mae Jenkins). Every new student passes through here first.
The building is a monument to a single idea. The student who got an F in Programming Concepts in 1996 — because he couldn’t type, not because he couldn’t program — went on to build an entire university through voice-to-text, three-finger typing, and AI as the execution layer. THE CENTER exists to say that every interface can be adapted and every barrier to input can be solved.
Ask how many colleges Opathorlokan has and you will get 21, 23, or 24 — and an argument. The mathematicians collapse every zero into one: 0, 00, and 0² are all just zero, so they count 21. The zeros object. Zero-Squared, who considers herself leader of the zero bloc, declines to be rounded away; the Quantum Beaver at Double-Zero has never once been told it doesn’t count and isn’t starting now; and NULL says nothing, which everyone reads as agreement. The registrar gave up in 2025. The number isn’t a fact — it’s a standoff, and we have chosen to leave it standing.

The address behind this university was real. Birmingham-Southern College — Methodist, 168 years, 192 wooded acres — closed on May 31, 2024 after a state loan fell through; the endowment had withered from $110M to $51M. User Zero chose it as OPA’s campus without knowing it stood empty.
He had been there before. Decades earlier he worked those sidelines as a Southern Athletic Association football referee — flag, whistle, stripes. He did not know then that he would come back.
Roughly 700 days of building later, he drove out to close the loop: US-78 West to Exit 123, down Arkadelphia under green lights, up to the sign. A guard met him. Travis explained. The guard said “no problem.” He stepped out, took one photo, got back in, and left.
Somewhere in that build window the United States Coast Guard acquired the property. They will train rescuers there. Told about it, Travis said: “That’s awesome.” Not grief. Not possessiveness. The tradition continues; the form changes.
“May the OPA college go on in whatever form it’s going to take, and may it train the workers that the builders are building for the future.”
