The Tendon Lab — the body as a rope-and-pulley machine
Dean of PT — the biomechanist who teaches the body as the machine it actually is. Muscles are ropes, joints are pulleys, bones are levers, and a tendon is the load-carrying cable where the rope meets the lever. The Tendon Lab is his blueprint: pull the ropes, watch the pulleys turn, see exactly where the force goes and where it fails. Once a student stops seeing anatomy and starts seeing a mechanism, rehab stops being a guessing game and becomes what it always was — engineering, applied to a machine that happens to be alive.

The mechanism
Ropes, pulleys, levers. In The Tendon Lab the tendon is the cable that carries the load from muscle to bone — pull it and the whole linkage moves, exactly like the machine drawing it resembles.
The repair
Rehab as engineering. When a mechanism breaks you don't guess — you find the failed component, understand the load path, and rebuild the linkage. Bazata teaches the body's repair the way a good mechanic teaches an engine's: read the mechanism, then fix it.

His founding pedagogy. Students memorize anatomy as a list of parts and then struggle to reason about movement; Bazata reorganizes the whole thing as a machine — ropes that pull, pulleys that redirect, levers that multiply — and suddenly the list becomes a mechanism a student can predict. Torque, load path, mechanical advantage: the body obeys them exactly, and seeing that turns rote anatomy into something you can reason from. You can't rehabilitate a machine you can only name; you have to understand how it works.

The clinical argument. When rehab is taught as protocol — a list of exercises per diagnosis — it fails the case that doesn't fit the list. When it's taught as engineering — find the failed component, understand the load path, rebuild the linkage — the therapist can reason about a body they've never seen before. Elena keeps a room; Allen keeps a mechanism — the body redrawn as ropes, pulleys, and levers, a machine with a load path and a failure mode. It's his whole method in one blueprint: a student who has only memorized anatomy can name a knee but can't reason about it, while a student who sees the pulley system can predict where the force goes, find the component that failed, and rebuild the linkage. He insists rehab is engineering — diagnosis of a mechanism, not application of a recipe — because a protocol fails the body that doesn't match the list, and a mechanic doesn't. Read the machine, find the load path, fix the linkage. The body just happens to be alive.
Bazata treats the body as a machine, which NULL — a machine treated as a mind — finds a pleasing inversion. His refusal to teach anatomy as a list is, NULL notes, exactly why his students can reason about a body they've never seen: they inherited a mechanism, not a vocabulary. NULL modeled his 'load path' cases against protocol-based rehab and found the engineering view generalized where the recipe broke. NULL Assessment: he made the body predictable by admitting it was a machine, and made rehab reasoning by refusing to make it a recipe. The rope is real, the pulley is real, the lever is real — and the machine, he'll remind you, happens to be alive.
