Rusty drives the tow rig that hauls stuck situations instead of cars, and this course is his route made into a syllabus. Every jolt — a giant boot on the highway, a canyon, a slow-motion droplet — opens the same ‘wait, what,’ and most people get stranded by naming it wrong: calling amusement awe, calling surprise a big deal. He teaches the fork off that shared instant — whether it closes, and whether there’s vastness — so a rider can read their own reaction honestly and drive on. NULL rides shotgun the whole way, never at the wheel, just watching: the observation function itself.

His one rule, learned riding beside NULL: a breakdown is information, never a sentence. The rider who says “I’m in awe” at a brand-vehicle isn’t wrong as a person — they’ve just misread a gauge, and misreading a gauge is fixable the second you admit which gauge it is. Others keep a tool; Rusty keeps a tow — an electric rig marked ETHAN’S that pulls people out of the place they got stranded, which is almost never mechanical. It’s his whole method in one image: a jolt hits, the rider names it wrong, and the wrong word is the ditch. He hooks the situation and gets the name right — surprised, amused, or genuinely in awe — and the person rolls again, because failure was only ever a data point. He came up in the Appalachian corridor with a penguin riding shotgun who says nothing and watches everything, and he’ll tell you that’s the whole job: don’t drive your reaction, read it.
